Sensei here in my story about how I got my promotion,
My aikido helped me in my interview to get my promotion. It started as I showed up early to the corporate office; I sat down in the waiting room clearing my mind. As they called me back to interview room I told myself two things in my head “always keep eye contact” and “aikido is how I stand before you”. All during the interview I moved my eye contact to all three ladies in the room interviewing me and reminding myself to have good stance as I sat in the chair. At the very end of interview the last question was ” How do you adapt to change and learn new things?” That”s when I told them I am a aikidoka and that there was a story that my Sensei told me called The Empty Cup. I told the ladies about the morel of the story is that to learn new things you must empty your mind “cup” of all things you learned before, to be able to receive all of the new knowledge the person can give you. They were impressed, and I got the promotion. I am now the lead assistant deli manager at the Des Peres Dierbergs.
